Abstract

This thesis discusses the character of material and its meaning, focusing on Chilongnaengseol the collection of anecdotes of people in Pyongan province. Until now, this part was recognized as a part of Seogyeongsihwa and discussed within the context because Professor Jeong Byeong-wook's collection was the only one, and it was transcribed without quite distinct from Seogyeongsihwa. In this paper, it was revealed that this part is not a part of comments on poems, but a collection of anecdotes of characters, and is a material that should be discussed separately from Seogyeongsihwa. In addition, while introducing Chilongnaengseol, the collection of the National Institute of Korean History, the differences between the two manuscripts were also partially discussed. In this article, while arranging the items and the characters in Chilongnaengseol, we discussed the discourse of discrimination against people in Pyongan province and the characteristics of the figures that they presented meaningfully in the context. In the perception that reality was unfair, a figure type to break through this situation was desperate, so the figure type presented as important in this anecdote has a strong character that does not give in to the surrounding situation or is a strong person who can strongly resist external situations. The interest and intention of the character anecdotes contained in Chilongnaengseol was strongly tied to the local people's perception of reality.
