서구 당대 사학의 동향과 近代中國歷史圖의 ‘심층 묘사’ ―‘근대 중국의 독서, 출판과 문화’에 대한 타이완의 연구 소개

본고는 당대 서구 학계의 ‘신문화사’ 연구 동향을 어떻게 참고할 것인가를 논하고, 근대 중국의 독서사(閱讀史)․出版史를 연구하고자 한 글이다. 그리고 이를 통해 근대 중국 역사도를 ‘세밀하게 묘사’하기 위한 새로운 시야를 제시하고자 한다. 또한 본고에서는 타이완 사학계에 나타난 이들 신흥 영역과 관련된 성과를 제시하고 약간의 소개와 졸견을 풀어보고자 한다. 필자는 우리가 연구의 시야를 조정하고 관찰의 각도를 전환한다면, 그리고 다양한 기존 자료를 다시 읽는다면, 그것이 제시할 수 있는 역사적 공간의 폭은 무한할 것이며 재현할 수 있는 歷史畵 역시 풍부한 모습을 띨 것이라고 생각한다.
Abstract
This essay gives some preliminary ideas and information about how to construct the history of reading and publishing in the context of modern Chinese culture. This is a new field in the study of modern China, the author seeks to discuss possible approaches to explore it, andhe shows what some young historians in Taiwan had contributed to it. The author also suggests that if we can change our understanding of the sources available from the late Qing, we can open up a new world of modern Chinese history, which will in turn further our knowledge about the cultural history of modern China.
