This essay tries to survey the new trend in Western historiography roughly after the linguistic turn has made its impact on Western historiography and history proper. To trace that it first recapitulates what the New Cultural History is about in its theoretical aspect. Then it goes on to the reception of the New Cultural History, based largely on the deconstructionist tactic, by historians of various inclinations. Finally, it tries to grope for the ways in which the New Cultural History and the social history would comes to terms with each other. That the new solution is not a return to the past but the reconceptualization of the categories founded in the social history will be profitable for both the New Cultural History and the social history.
