梁实秋 『雅舍小品』에 나타난 자유주의적 작가의식

본고는 ‘인성’을 중심으로 한 梁实秋의 문학론에 나타나는 자유주의적 성격을 분석하고, 이와 관련하여 그의 1940년대 작품이자 대표작인 『雅舍小品』을 ‘일상’의 기록이라는 측면에서 독해하였다. 작가의 가치관과 작품 속 서술태도를 ‘삶에 대한 긍정적인 태도’와 ‘관조적인, 우려의 시선’으로 살펴보았으며, 梁实秋의 문학론 속 ‘인성’이 작품에 나타난 양상을 ‘인간의 보편적 감정에 대한 서술’과 ‘일상을 사회로 확장시키는 시선’으로 보고자 했다. 梁实秋의 『雅舍小品』은 일상의 사실적인 재현이라 말할 수 있으며, 또한 미덕을 찬미하고 악덕을 경계하는 의미를 품고 있는 텍스트이기도 하다. 이렇듯 梁实秋는 문학가가 민중의 고통과 힘든 감정을 대변해주는 존재라 여기며 변하지 않는 것을 살펴봄으로써 영구불변한 인성을 들여다보려 하였고, 이를 통해 당시 사회의 면면을 파악하고 현실의 이면에 존재하는 일상의 중요성을 이야기하고자 했다.
Abstract
This paper analyzed the liberalistic character that appears in the literary theory of Liang Shi-Qiu turns on the 'personality', and in this connection, read of Cottager's Sketchbook his 1940 masterpiece work in terms of the history of 'ordinary life'. First, I examined the values and narrating attitude of the author as 'a positive attitude to life' and 'contemplative gaze of concern'. And second, I wanted to describe 'personality' in the literary theory of Liang Shi-Qiu in his work as 'narration about universal emotions of human' and 'a gaze that expands ordinary life into society'. Liang Shi-Qiu's Cottager's Sketchbook can be told realistic reappearance of ordinary life. In addition, Cottager's Sketchbook is also meant to be the text in praise of the virtues and on the alert for vices. Thus Liang Shi-Qiu thought that literary person would represent the suffering and difficult feelings of the people, and he wanted to look into a permanent personality by looking at the unchanging things. And he would like to understand each and every one of contemporary society and to talk about the importance of ordinary life that exists in the back side of reality.
