鄭夢周의 두 편지의 글씨에 관한 일고찰

Abstract

Jeong, Mong-joo(鄭夢周, 1337~1392)'s 'July 21' and 'August 5' two handwritten letters are included in the 『Ryeomalseonchoseonhyeoncheop(麗末鮮初先賢帖)』. The calligraphy (書體) of them is peculiar, protean and natural. The question is whether the calligraphy is Jeong's own handwriting or not. Yoon, Doo-soo(尹斗壽, 1533~1601) reproduced the calligraphy on the 『Seongillok(成仁錄)』. Ryu Seong-ryong(柳成龍, 1542~1607) included the two letters in the 『Poeunjip(圃隱集)』. Osechang(吳世昌, 1864~1953) included the 'July 21' letter on the first page of 『Geunmuk(槿墨)』 which is the anthology of masterful calligraphy in Korean history. These facts tell us that these three people acknowledged the calligraphy as Jeong's own handwriting. The next step was to compare the calligraphy of the two letters with the calligraphy of 『Geunyeogseohwi(槿域書彙)』 which is recognized as Jeong's own handwriting by Osechang and Yunsaguk(尹師國, 1728~1809). Consequently, both sides were proved to be the same calligraphy. Accordingly, we can reach a conclusion that the calligraphy of the two letters is Jeong, Mong-joo's own handwriting.
