1932년부터 1945년까지 중국 동북지역에 괴뢰국가인 만주국이 수립되는 동안, 이 지역의 많은 도시들은 일제에 의해 근대화되었다. 그중에서도 신경은 만주국의 국도로서 대표적인 역할을 수행하였다. 당시 신경에 거주하던 중국인 중심의 피식민자들은 일제가 추진한 도시화와 근대화의 성과를 경험하면서도, 도시 발전에 따른 경제적 불균형, 빈부 격차, 사회적 분화, 그리고 감시 체제의 부정적 영향을 감내해야 했다. 이로 인해 그들의 인식 속에는 사실과 느낌 사이에 메울 수 없는 균열이 발생하였다. 본 논문은 만주국 시기 국도 신경의 도시계획 및 개조사업을 문화적 서사와 공간 계획을 통해 고찰함으로써, 식민 도시의 공간 형성에서 식민 권력의 역할을 분석하고, 그 이면에 내재된 식민 통치의 영향을 규명하고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 ‘식민지근대화론’에 대한 객관적인 시각을 제공하며, ‘식민성’과 ‘근대성’ 간의 관계를 변증법적으로 이해하는 데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
While Manchukuo, a puppet state, was established in northeastern China from 1932 to 1945, many cities in the northeast were modernized by the Japanese colonial rule. Among them, Hsinking was highly representative as the national road of Manchukuo. At that time, the Chinese-oriented colonists living in Hsinking experienced the results of urbanization and modernization brought about by the Japanese colonial rule, but endured the negative effects of economic inequality, the gap between the rich and the poor, social differentiation, and surveillance caused by urban development, creating a crack in perception that could not be filled between facts and feelings. Through cultural narratives and spatial planning, this paper examines the urban planning and renovation projects of the national road during the Manchukuo period, revealing the role of colonial rights in the formation of urban spaces in colonial cities, and identifying the impact on colonial rule behind it, which helps to understand the objective view of the ‘colonial modernization theory’ and the relationship between ‘coloniality’ and ‘modernity’ dialectically.
