Abstract

This study was designed to understand the current status of Shimsan Kim Chang-sook's research and to set future tasks through it. From the end of the 1970s to the present, Kim Chang-sook's research has been conducted, and 23 books, 6 dissertations (doctor's 2, master's 4), and 46 general papers have been accumulated. In this discussion, we first examined how the research has been conducted according to the passage of time, and then reviewed how the research has been conducted by academic departments. It is a measure to examine both the diachronic and public aspects of the research. Looking at Kim Chang-sook's research from a diachronic perspective, the 『Shimsan Yugo(心山遺稿)』 and the 『Korean translation Shimsan Yugo(國譯 心山遺稿)』 were published as the Shimsan Thought Research Association was organized, and through this, the foundation for the research was laid. Until now, research on Kim Chang-sook has had a flow of multifaceted understanding(first stage), intensive understanding(second stage), and popular understanding(third stage) based on the independence movement. Looking at Kim Chang-sook's research from a synchronie perspective, it was discussed in terms of philosophy, literature, pedagogy, and popularization, centering on history. As the themes of independence, unification, and democracy are intertwined with modern and contemporary Korean history, Kim Chang-sook's research was bound to be centered on history. When presenting future prospects for Kim Chang-sook's research, it can be summarized into six broad categories. First, it is urgent to discover and foster new researchers for Kim Chang-sook's research. Second, it is necessary to lay a new foundation for research by creating a 『Shimsan Jeonseo(心山全書)』. Third, it should be studied by reflecting on the achievements. Fourth, research on Kim Chang-sook by field should add depth. Fifth, it is necessary to give new momentum to Kim Chang-sook's current research. Sixth, it is necessary to try a cultural approach of Kim Chang-sook's research. In addition, it should be possible to shed new light on the popularization of Kim Chang-sook's research.
