Abstract
This study investigates the identities of the Ttakjibon popular novel writers “Wolpa” and “Iso” and reconstructs a comprehensive bibliography of their works. It challenges the prevailing equation “Wolpa = Iso = Kim Sang-yong” by analyzing pseudonym usage in newspaper advertisements and colophon notes, presenting compelling evidence that the two names refer to the same author. Furthermore, by analyzing newly discovered names such as ‘Son Cheol-su’ and ‘Kim Il-seon’ from advertisement data, this study argues that Son Cheol-su is the most plausible candidate for the author's true identity. A full survey of extant Ttakjibon editions revealed previously unrecorded works, corrected bibliographic errors, and clarified variant editions. Through this bibliographic reconstruction, the study establishes the significant activity of “Wolpa” and “Iso” as major authors between 1923 and 1936. Ultimately, it offers new insights into pseudonym strategies and the publishing culture of the colonial period.
