Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the media usage and music consumption status of Gen Z, and to explore the direction of music education based on these findings. A survey was conducted on 123 high school students from Gen Z, and the conclusions and implications of the study are as follows. First, it is necessary to create an educational environment that prioritizes the communication methods, learning experiences and preferences of the highly media-savvy Gen Z to maximize their potential. Second, an analysis of Gen Z’s media activities revealed that social media can be actively utilized in music education. Third, considering how Gen Z embraces popular music and culture, it is essential to apply learning methods that engage and immerse students. Fourth, collaborative learning formats that encourage group project and discussion through online collaborative tools can buffer and adjust the personalized learning experiences of Gen Z. This study underscores the need for ongoing efforts to systematically ground the generational characteristics of Gen Z or futures generations of learners, and confirms the necessity for a multifaced discussion on music educaton methods linked to generational characteristics.
