자폐성장애 자녀 어머니의 장애수용 경험에 관한 질적 연구

본 연구는 자폐성장애(Autistic Spectrum Disorder; ASD) 자녀를 양육하는 어머니들의 장애수용 경험을 이해하고자 질적 연구방법론을 활용하였다. 심층면담은 자폐장애 자녀 어머니들의 삶의 체험 중에서 자녀의 장애수용에 관한 주관적 경험에 초점을 두어 진행하였다. 도출된 연구결과의 대주제는 “자폐장애 자녀를 끌어안고자 하는 어머니의 분투와 성장, 그리고 ‘어머니와 자녀 삶의 분리 불가’라는 미해결된 과제” 이다. 대주제의 ４가지 하위 영역으로 1) '장애아의 출산을 둘러싼 혼란과 좌절', 2) '비-장애를 목표로, 그러나 장애를 직면하며', 3) '엄마의 가슴으로 끌어안으며’, 4) ‘독립과 의존의 딜레마’를 범주화하였다. 자폐성장애 당사자와 부모들을 위한 사회복지 정책 및 프로그램으로 조기진단체계, 자립생활을 위한 재활지원체계, 후견인 제도의 정착을 제안하였다.
Abstract
This qualitative research is designed to understand the mothers' experience in the process of accepting the disability of their children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In-depth interviews of the mothers of ASD children were conducted with a focus on the subjective experiences of the mother, particularly on her experience of accepting her child's disability. The main theme penetrating through the participants' experience emerged as the struggle and the growth of the mother striving to embrace her child's ASD, and the unresolved issue of the impossibility of separation between the lives of the disabled child and the mother. Furthermore, four sub-themes were identified: (1) confusion and frustration surrounding the birth of an ASD child; (2) the goal to achieve non-disability while confronting disability; (3) embracing it all with the heart of a mother; and (4) the dilemma between independence and dependence. This study thereby proposed social welfare polices that respond to these major themes; such as an early diagnostic system for ASD, rehabilitation support system for their independent life, and settling down for the guardian system.
