TV 다큐멘터리와 청년세대 재현에 대한 비판적 고찰

본 연구는 ‘청년’의 현실을 TV다큐멘터리가 어떻게 재현하고 어떤 담론을 생산하는지 비판적으로 고찰하고자 했다. 최근 방영된 지상파 3사의 TV다큐멘터리 프로그램 8편을 분석한 결과 청년세대들은 생존과 직결된 주제들과 관련되어 재현되고 있었으며 특히 공정성 가치와 관련하여 청년들의 문제가 다루어지고 있었다. 이야기구조는 인물들의 중심서사와 이를 뒷받침하거나 보완하는 부수서사로 구성되어 있었다. 청년세대에 대해 틀 짓는 방식은 첫째, 청년문제들의 원인은 피상적으로 묘사되는 양상을 보였다. 둘째, 청년문제에 대한 책임소재의 주체는 청년 개개인들로 나타났다. 셋째, 문제에 대한 대안 또는 해결방안으로는 개인의 노력이 가장 중요하게 제시되었다. 담화의 차원에서는 언술구조의 최상위 위치인내레이터가 전원 남성으로 구성됨으로써 청년의 목소리가 청년남성의 목소리로 대변되었다. 영상서술에서는 위기극복과 관련해 희망적인 분위기, 코믹한 요소들이 동원되어 낙관적인 메시지를 전달하고 근본적인 문제는 은폐하는 양상을 보였다. 전반적으로 청년세대에 대한 문제의식을 공유하고 목소리를 듣고자 하는 시도는 있었으나 개인의 차원에서 청년문제를 다루고 있었으며 신자유주의의 내면화로 인한 문제적 상황에 대한 비판적 접근에는 이르지 못하고 있었다.
Abstract
The study was intended to critically examine how TV Documentary represent “youth” and what discussions are being held. For this purpose, this study analyzed eight documentary programs about youth in Korea, based on Chatman's narrative structure model and Entman's frame analysis. As a result, the youth generation was reproduced in relation to survival topics such as employment, housing, and money, and other issues related to fairness were appealed in terms of value. The narrative structure consisted of a central narrative composed of character-oriented examples and a secondary narrative supporting or supplementing them. Based on the frame analysis, first, the causes of problems directly related to survival, such as employment, money, and housing, were described as individual efforts. Second, the subjects responsible for youth problems were young individuals, and third, individual efforts were suggested as the most important solutions to the problems of the youth generation. In other words, through this representation, the problems surrounding the youth generation and solutions were personalized. On the level of discourse, it was pointed out that young people are summoned as speech subjects, but all narrators located at the top of the speech structure are composed of men, resulting in youth generation’s voice being represented by young men's voices. In the visual writing, when drawing a picture of overcoming the crisis, a hopeful atmosphere or comic elements were mobilized to convey an optimistic message while at the same time covering up fundamental problems. Overall, there were attempts to share the problem-sense of youth and listen to the voices of young people in the analysis, but they were dealing with the problems of young people at the individual level, not at the social structure, and failed to reach a critical approach to the current problematic situation caused by the internalization of neo-liberalism.
