초록
This essay examines the possibility of a new universal history through the analysis of some important attempts to reconfigure the universal, especially those by Bruce Mazlish, Dipesh Chakrabarty, and Susan Buck-Morss. The task of overcoming Eurocentrism is, I would argue, inseparable from investigating the possibility of a new universal history. This task is also about breaking the vicious circle of centrisms in which one centrism is alternated by another one. After some critical analysis of "return of universal history," I would like to suggest a universal history which focuses on the global exchanges and interactions of the universal in thought and practices. I would call this approach of a universal history as a critical history of the network of the universal.
