초록
This article deals with the Caluire affair that included the arrests of several Resistance leaders headed by French national hero Jean Moulin, at Caluire, a suburb of Lyon on 21 June, 1943, and the trials of René Hardy in 1947 and 1950. Hardy was a member of the Resistance group Combat and in charge of railroad sabotage operations, who was suspected of having informed the Gestapo of the Resistance secret meeting at Caluire, and thus being responsible for the death of Jean Moulin. I agree with the judgment of most of later historians who believed that Hardy should have been guilty in spite of the both verdicts of acquittal in 1947 and 1950. Above all, the two Gestapo reports, Flora report and Kaltenbrunner's report seem to confirm the thesis of Hardy's guilt. There is no doubt that the two contemporary reports of the Caluire affaire were even more credible than a number of later individual testimonies. However, this article concentrates more on the reactions of the press to the Caluire affair and its two trials, rather than the issue of whether Hardy was guilty or not. The reactions of the Paris newspapers to the Caluire-Hardy affair showed that those days were not the ‘post-war’ period any longer, but normal times and a new age of the Cold War, and furthermore the times to emphasize the priorities of national harmony and forgiveness over condemnation and punishment, and forgetting over memory.
