Abstract
This study explores the effects of the high performance work system(HPWS) of the human resource management systems on the proportion of women managers in the organizations using the Human Capital Corporate Panel(HCCP). While organizations have been trying to develop and adopt new human resource management systems to improve organizational effectiveness, high performance work system in particular is characterized as a scientific human resource management system. It is yet clear as to whether/how the high performance work system influences women's career. The findings show that the bundle of high performance work systems are likely to reduce the proportion of women managers in the organizations. Regarding the individual strategies’ impacts, the strict recruiting strategy and scientific evaluation are likely to increase the proportion of women managers while workers’ participation and performance-incentive linkage are likely to have negative effects on the proportion of women managers in the organizations.
