Abstract
For young adults taking their first steps into society, the stress of job-seeking can escalate to the risk of suicide. This study aimed to identify psychological mechanisms underlying the relationship between job-seeking stress and suicidal crisis among young adults. Data from 20,285 respondents who participated in the 2020 Seoul Youth Allowance Panel Survey were analyzed to test a moderated mediation model involving anxiety and social network size. The results showed that job-seeking stress positively predicted suicidal crisis through the mediating effect of anxiety. Furthermore, the mediating effect of anxiety in the relationship between job-seeking stress and suicidal crisis was moderated by social network size. These findings suggest that social network size may serve as a protective factor buffering the risk of suicide. In particular, strengthening social network size for young individuals experiencing job-seeking stress may help to reduce mental health risks.
