초록
As the minimalism develops from the early 1990s, there arise many attempts, including Hornstein (1995, 1999) and Kitahara (1996), the eliminate QR (Quantifier Rasing), which has played a crucial role ein accounting for the scopal dependencies between the scope-bearing elements. This is becuase given the minimalist assumption that all movement be 'feature-driven,' QR lacks an independent motivation as a syntactic movement. On the other hand, arguing against such a stream, Kennedy (1997) and Fox (1995, 2000), among others, provide a variety of evidence, which shows that there exists QR on the basis of data with ACD (Antecedent-Contained Deletion) construction. In this sense, the aim of this paper is to provide an answer to each of the following questions: (1) what triggers QR?; and (2) what is the landing site of QR? For this purpose, I will argue as follows: (1) QR does exist, based on Kennedy's (1997) and Pesetsky's (2000) observation;' (2) QR is a kind of OS (Object Shift)-like syntactic movement, which is driven by [p]-feature of v* for satifying the single specifier requirement on v*1-spec or the multiple specifier requirement on v*m-spec; and (3) this kind of syntactic movement QR is regulated in terms of Chomsky's (2000, 2001) Phase Impenetrability Condition and Scope Economy adopted from Fox (2000).
