Abstract
The different roles played by the participants of a talk and their type are explored from a dynamic perspective of conversation. The traditional autonomous concepts of speaker and hearer are critically reviewed and the variability of theri roles is discussed. In particular, the role of indirect hearers is examined in a conversation that involves multiple tasks. As a typicla case of the interlocutors' carrying out multi-tasking, the recent talk between President Roh and public prosecutors is analyzed in which the potential hearers who were not present on the scene plyed a crucial role in determining the development of the talk.
