Abstract
Background : Social dating services, which provide opportunities to form relationships between various users through online platforms, are increasing in use worldwide, but are showing exceptionally slow growth in the domestic market. Regarding the general use of social dating services, it has also been pointed out that these services encourage superficial encounters between people. Therefore, this study sought to propose a new function that could overcome the slowdown in the domestic market and qualitatively improve the connection between users. Methods : In this study, hypotheses on the use of social dating services are derived through preliminary surveys, and based on this, surveys and interviews with participants with experience in using the service are conducted. In this process, the top five services answered through the survey are analyzed by applying the analysis model presented in the Poetics of Service study. Subsequently, based on the comprehensive model, the service use flow, function and design outputs are proposed to improve the overall problem of the service use process. Results : Based on survey and interview results, social dating services are primarily used for exploring potential partners for long-term relationships; however, users generally do not feel satisfied with the intended purpose, leading to a tendency to develop negative perceptions about the service. To address these issues, we aimed to create a process where users can explore potential partners based on mutual trust. Conclusion : In the proposed features, we adopted a feed-style format from social networking services to alleviate the difficulty of profile construction and enable the formation of user communities. During the conversation process, we aimed to encourage dense conversations by introducing limited-time conversation stages and entertainment features. Through these functionalities, we hope users can more effectively explore trustworthy counterparts within the service and, based on this, foster meaningful relationships.
