본고는 원래 1회성 단편이었던 나는 고양이로다를 장편화하는 과정에서 소세키가 스턴적 소설방법을 어떤 양상으로 도입하는지를 살펴본 것이다. 또 스턴이라는 창을 통해 事實의 문제를 소설로 異化하는 것, 즉 소설을 평소 잘 보지 못하는 뭔가로 대상화함으로써 사생문의 가능성을 실험하려 했던 소세키가 소위 시대적 사회적 정신으로 작용한 일본의 자연주의문학에 대해 어떻게 반응하며 본격적인 리얼리즘의 실마리를 창출해 가는지에 대해서도 살펴보았다
Abstract
A Study on “I Am a Cat” by Natsume Soseke and Laurence Sterne 攀* Research professor / Chonbuk National University, Institute of Humanities攀攀Choi, Myeong-sook*This Study focuses on the relations of “I Am a Cat” written by Natsume Soseke and “The life and Opinions of Traistram Shandy, Gentleman” written by Laurence Sterne. Especially this paper treats of Soseki borrowing Sterne’s literary method in a what way, in the middle of making an one-off short story into long story. And I argue that Soseki has dissimulated an actual fact by means of a literary sketch. Through making an experiment on it, Soseke tried to show a full-dress realism that is dissimilar in Japanese naturalistic literature which was characterized with epochal and social spirit.20[Key Words]Traistram Shandy, Rakugo and Kodan, A literary Sketch, Naturalistic literature, A full-dress realism
