This paper studies the paper mony's development history in China. The earliest paper mony is the “jiaozi” in North Song dynasty and the "huizi" in South Song dynasty. This paper summaries the paper money's development history and its characteristics from two periods. The first period is the feudal ages, include Song dynasty, Jin dynasty, Yuan dynasty, Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty. In the Chinese feudal ages, the paper money play a secondary roles in social trades, and the feudal governments uses the paper mony to appropriate financial funds. In the Republic of China, the paper mony's development history is very complicated. First, in the early periods of the Republic of China, the militaristic governments effect the paper mony's developments. Second, although the central bank is established, but there was no substantive positive roles. Third, the paper mony's development has the structural conflicts, the North military power and South military power, China and Japan, the Chinese Communists and the Kuomintang. Forth, the regional bank and regional paper money play an important roles in the Republic of China.
