독일의 초대 총리 콘라드 아데나워에 대해 공부를 하는데 자료를 볼수록 이승만 대통령이 떠올랐다. 건국의 아버지로서 두 사람이 비슷한 점이 많았다. 73세에 초대 대통령과 초대 총리에 오른 것, 애국심과 권력의지가 강했던 것, 장기 집권한 것까지도비슷했다. 국가의 틀을 만드는 과정에서도 두 지도자는 북한과 동독을 공산권 괴뢰 정부로 여겨 정상 국가로 인정하지 않았고, 시장경제를 기본으로 하면서도 농지개혁, 사회보장제를 추진했다. 친일파와 나치 부역자 문제에서도 아주 중한 책임이 있는 자를제외하고는 관용하는 등 마치 두 사람이 상의한 듯 닮았다. 유일한 차이라면 아데나워는 역사상 가장 존경하는 독일인으로 국민의 추앙을 받고 있지만, 이승만은 그 반대라는 사실이다. 저자는 이승만의 말엽, 그 쇠락과 쓸쓸한 노년의 풍경을 겸허하게 생각하지 않을 수없다. 시대의 흐름을 읽고 대비하였으되 찰나의 물러설 순간을 놓쳤던 장면은 안타깝고가엾다. 그것은 우리 인생의 본질적인 나약함과 한계를 웅비하는, 몹시 교훈적 성찰의지점이라 본다. 우리는 이승만을 다시금 회고하며 읽고 성찰할 필요가 있다. 독립과 건국, 자유주의와 근대화, 이 숨 가빴던 20세기의 드라마를 가장 깊이 이해하고 설득력있게 살아낸 한국인, 성취의 정점에 섰던 인물을 다시 생각해 보아야 할것이다. 이승만과 콘라드 아데나워는 그 말로가 극과 극을 이루고 있다. 한 사람은 21세기에 들어서도 여전히 대다수 국민들의 추앙을 받는 국부의 명성을 누리고 있고, 또 한사람은 국민의 힘으로 권좌에서 강제로 물러난 다음 해외에서 생을 마무리한 비참한망명 정객이 되었다. 모든 세대가 이승만을 잊고 있었다. 이 논문은 두 인물의 생애를살펴보고, 이승만과 아데나워가 어떤 인물인지 비교해 본 후, 그들의 국가관, 통일관, 종교관, 외교관, 대미관, 경제관 등을 알아본다. 마지막으로 그들은 국부인가 독재자인가의 문제를 검토하고, 나오면서-상반된 평가를 어떻게 볼 것인가의 문제를 살펴보기로 한다.
Abstract
The more I looked at the data, the more I thought of President Syngman Rhee while studying about Adenauer, the first prime minister of Germany. As the founding father, the two had many similarities. His rise to the position of first president and first prime minister at the age of 73, his strong patriotism and strong will to power, and his long-term rule were similar. In the process of framing the country, the two leaders regarded North Korea and East Germany as communist puppet governments and did not recognize them as normal states, and while based on a market economy, they promoted land reform and social security systems. It seems as if the two discussed the pro-Japanese group and the Nazi deputy, tolerating them except those who have serious responsibilities. The only difference is that while Adenauer is revered by the people as the most respected German in history, Syngman Rhee is the opposite. The author humbly thinks of the landscape of Syngman Rhee's decline and lonesome old age at the end of the year. The scene where we read and prepared for the trend of the times, but missed the moment to retreat, is unfortunate and pitiful. It is seen as a very instructive point of reflection, contending on the essential weaknesses and limitations of our lives. We need to look back on Syngman Rhee, read and reflect. Independence and founding, liberalism and modernization. We need to look again at the Korean who lived the most persuasively and understood this breathtaking drama of the 20th century, and the person who stood at the peak of achievement. Syngman Rhee and Adenauer are polar opposites. One still enjoys the reputation of national wealth, which is revered by the majority of the people, even into the 21st century, and another became a miserable exile politician who died abroad after being forced to resign by the power of the people. Syngman Rhee was forgotten by all generations. This paper examines the lives of the two characters, compares the types of people Syngman Rhee and Adenauer, and examines their views of state, unity, religion, diplomats, grand views, and economics. Finally, they will examine the question of whether they are national wealth or dictators, and look at the question of how to view the conflicting evaluation as they emerge.
