Abstract
One unit that appears to have been part of the Goryeo royal navy was the Naval Command(海領). It was a unit under the Cheonu Guard(千牛衛). The soldiers in the Naval Command were hereditary professional soldiers. The origin of the Naval Command, which belonged to the Cheonu Guard, can be seen as a descendant of the naval forces that were active during the Later Three Kingdoms Unification War. The naval forces of Goryeo, which fought for control of the Southwest Sea during the later three kingdoms unification war, were reorganized after the unification of the later three kingdoms and became the Naval Command, a subordinate unit of the Cheonu Guard. The Naval Command was organized as a standing army, and its members received land from the state. Like other soldiers in the Goryeo royal army, the naval soldiers received land from the state in exchange for their duties, and they passed on their land to their children or relatives in exchange for their duties and missions. Sometimes they followed the emissaries, participated in trade and profited from it, and were rewarded for their special duties.
