본 논문은 2011년 혼인신고서 자료를 사용하여 여성연상혼 남녀의 인구사회적 특성을 분석하고 연상혼 증가의 우리사회 결혼가족문화에의 함의를 짚어보고 있다. 연상혼 동갑혼 연하혼을 종속변수로 다항로지스틱 분석을 한 결과 연상혼 남성의 교육수준은 비교집단 중 가장 낮은 것으로 나타나고 있다. 연상혼 여성의 교육수준 역시 가장 낮지만 가장 높은 층 비율도 가장 높아 내부 이질성이 크고 다소의 양극성향을 드러내고 있다. 이러한 결과는 연상혼 여성이 안정된 직업이 없이 사회경제적 지위가 낮은 여성들과 높은 사회경제적 수준의 고연령 여성의 이질적인 두 부류의 여성으로 나뉘어 있음을 나타내며 이중 후자의 여성들이 최근의 연상혼 증가에 좀더 직접적으로 관련이 있을 것으로 보여지고 있다. 높은 사회경제적 능력을 갖춘 여성들이 자신보다 생계부양 능력은 떨어지지만 자녀양육, 가사참여 등에 유리한 연하의 남성들과 결혼을 하는 것이다. 이런 점에서 연상혼 증가는 단순히 연령파괴로서가 아니라 전통적인 가부장적 부부가족관계와 성역할을 좀더 양성평등적인 방향으로 변화시킨다는 의미를 지닌다.
Abstract
This study investigates the increase of women’s age hypogamy in Korea, using data, 「The 2011 Annual Marriage Reports」. It analyzes the socioeconomic characteristics of the men and women of women’s age hypogamy in comparison with those of the more prevalent men’s age hypogamy. Analysis was done with multinomial logistic regression using the marriage types (women’s age hypogamy, homogamy, hypergamy) as the dependant variable. The main findings show that the average educational level of the men and women of women’s age hypogamy is the lowest, while that of men’s hypogamy is the highest. While the educational level of men of age hypergamy is consistently lower than any other marriage types, the educational level of women is a mixture of the highest and the lowest. This bipolarity reflects the heterogeneity of the women marrying men younger than themselves. There are two different groups of women in this marriage; that is, the least educated women(more likely of a traditional type) and the highly educated women (more likely of a newly emerging type). These newly emerging women marrying younger men are expected to make significant contributions to lead to more gender equal marriage and family lives in Korea.
