본 연구는 가정위탁제도 내에서 손자녀를 양육하는 조부모의 인구사회학적 특성과 손자녀 및 양육특성을 파악하고, 조부모의 우울감과 양육의지에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 각 시도의 17개 가정위탁지원센터별로 10세대의 조손가족을 할당하여 전국표집을 수행하였고, 최종적으로 160명 조부모의 응답자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과, 자신의 신체적 건강을 나쁘다고 인식하고, 손자녀의 내재화 문제행동을 심각한 수준으로 생각하는 조부모일수록 높은 수준의 우울감을 보이는 경향이 있었다. 조부모가 인식하는 사회적 지지는 우울감과 통계적으로 유의미한 부적 관계를 나타내 사회적 지지가 조부모의 우울감 완화에 주요한 요인임을 재확인하였다. 한편, 배우자와 동거하는 조부모일수록, 손자녀가 남아인 경우, 손자녀의 내재화 문제행동을 심각하게 평가하는 조부모일수록, 의료경비 부족을 자주 경험하고, 손자녀의 친부모와 관계가 좋지 않은 조부모일수록 양육의지가 약한 것으로 분석되었다. 연구결과를 토대로 향후 조손가족을 위한 가정위탁지원과 복지서비스의 실천적, 정책적 제언을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The study aims to examine demographic characteristics of grandparents, grandchild’s characteristics, and care circumstance as well as to investigate factors associated with the level of depressive symptoms and care retention of grandparents raising grandchildren in foster care system. Purposive and quota sampling procedure was undertaken in order to collect data from a nation-wide sample and ten cases each 17 regional foster care service center were assigned. Data from the total of 160 grandparents were analyzed. Results reveal that grandparents who reported poor or fair physical health and perceive internalizing problems of grandchildren are more likely to report higher levels of depression. Grandparents’ perceived social support is found to have a direct, negative relationship with depression. Those who have a living-with spouse, raise a grandson, perceive internalizing problems of grandchildren, report lack of medical expenses, and report worse relationship with the parents of grandchild in care are more likely to report unwillingness to care retention. Implications for foster care and welfare policy and practice are discussed to better serve grandparents and their grandchildren in foster care system.
