Abstract

Using WVS(World Value Survey) dataset of WVS 2001, 2005, 2010, this study explores the changes in attitudes towards homosexuality in South Korea. This study analyzes the trends of how individuals justify homosexuality and mention homosexuals as their neighbors and how social demographic variables affect the changes in individuals attitudes towards homosexuality. The results show that the recent trends in Korea has a U-shaped curve for favoring homosexuals and their rights, but it shows the increase in favor of homosexuality. The inclusion of new cohort in the population increases the chance of favoring human rights of homosexuals and the role of individuals’ religion has no significance in explaining the attitudes towards homosexuality.
