Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the choices and actions of the three generations of a family from Hyangban landlords, centered on Kwon Oh-bong(權五鳳), his father as a Confucian scholar, and his son as a socialist, in relation with changes in the Gujinhae area, which changes from the periphery to the hinterland of Masan. Through this, the response of the members of Hyangban society in the face of modern and contemporary changes is reviewed. It targets the three generations of the Hyangban family, but the center of the discussion is Kwon O-bong, and it focuses on community activities after the 1910s in particular. The thesis dealt with the following three themes. First, the relationship between the three generations of the family and each individual's choice were compared, focusing on Kwon Oh-bong's Japanese language, higher education, and background of working as a government official. Second, the changes in the Jinhae region and the response of the Jinhae Hyangban world were examined, focusing on the conflict surrounding the publication of the township. Thus, the realistic competition surrounding modern facilities such as schools and myeon(面) offices behind the scenes was revealed, and the fact that they tried to exclude the Kwon(權氏) and Byun(卞氏) families, who were competing with the tradition of Gujin Hae-hyeon, was newly revealed. Third, while investigating Kwon O-bong's community activities microscopically, the influence of the tribe was discussed together. Through this, in response to modern and contemporary changes, it was confirmed that tribes not only strengthened the solidarity of members and socially defined individuals, but also continuously influenced an individual's community activities.
