This study explores the effect of vocabulary learning by utilizing images which can influence students’ vocabulary ability. According to the 7th national curriculum, we pursue to achieve communicative competence by developing the harmony of four skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking. In other words, the importance of vocabulary learning is emphasized to teach language and a variety of teaching methods and strategies have been developing. The experiment of this study was conducted to 40 Korean middle school students in the third grade through vocabulary tests and interviews. The results of this study are summarized as follows: There are meaningful differences between the experimental group and the controlled group and that means the teaching method by using images is effective for students' vocabulary ability. Second, depending on the levels of students' English ability, vocabulary learning with images is an effectual method regardless of students' ability. Lastly, the students showed positive responses on vocabulary learning with images. Therefore, to adopt this method in vocabulary learning in a class will facilitate the environment of the class and be good way for developing the students' vocabulary ability.
