Abstract

Reading literature requires us to respond to a text emotionally as well as cognitively. We respond affectively to the literary text as a whole. These feelings are unique and tied to each reader’s life experiences. Emphasizing personal involvement in literature develops an imagination, a sense of wonder, and an active participation through the literary experience and literary education. We valued literature as a means of enlarging our knowledge of the world, because through literature we acquire not so much additional informations as additional experiences. Literature provides a living through, not simply knowledge about. Considering this point, literature has to communicate with our life. Charlotte’s Web, White’s masterpiece, was met with a chorus of praise on its publication in 1952. That praise has, over the years, grown more insistent. The novel is about connection, loss, dependence, gradual maturation, longing and fulfillment. The humanized hero, Wilbur is cared by nurturant protectors. The caring is interconnected with a girl, a spider, a rat, numerous geese and sheep. The miracle of Wilbur’s fantastic salvation is wrought by Charlotte, a creature enmeshed in nature whose life is everywhere conducted according to nature’s realities. In these works, words themselves operate as true miracles. Language is the creator of reality and is responsible for the formation of a self. Furthermore the power of language is related with interrelationship and the ethic of caring. The interpellation is not monologue but dialogue in this relationship, and it is interrelationship by web. Then web-weaving becomes a metaphor for the ability to construct a life that allows one to live authentically and fully and to satisfy one’s being. Animal fantasy so alternates with reality in Charlotte’s Web that shows the chasm that separates the adult human realm from the natural dynamics of the animal world. It also posits the need for an interpreter or an translator between these two realms. The Communication between Charlotte and Wilbur gives many existential messages and introspection to our world.
