The space of Manchuria in Korean modern novels engages with the Korean migration history and the modern history of western great powers that wanted to win vested rights in China, Japan, and Northeast Asia during the period of Japanese imperialism’s occupation of Korea. The writers who described the experience of Manchuria in the Korean modern literatures well are Choi Seo-Hae, Gang Gyeong-Ae, Kim Chang-Geol, and Ahn Soo-Gil. Especially, Ahn Soo-Gil, while living in Gando from 1932 to 1945, published「Dawn」,「Rice Plant」, and「Records of Stock Farming」, using the life in Gando in 1940s as the subject matters. And he published a collection of his works,『Bukwon』, and a long novel, 『Booggando』, through which he was highlighted as a representative writer having the experience of Manchuria. In this paper, Ahn Soo-Gil's life and literary characteristics, and further, the characters, the writer’s national consciousness, and the description structure of 『Booggando』 will be focused.
