This study estimates the economic value of the Mt. Gariwang cable car, a key Olympic legacy from the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, using the Contingent Valuation Method with a dichotomous choice approach. The research focuses on local residents in Jeongseon County, where the cable car is located, to evaluate their willingness to pay (WTP) for its continued operation. Survey results indicate an average WTP of approximately KRW 37,073, with significant influencing factors including respondent age, length of residence, and support for continued operation. The estimated total economic value perceived by local residents is approximately KRW 1.24 billion. These findings provide critical insights for balancing environmental conservation and tourism development, and they offer practical implications for sustainable management strategies and policy decisions regarding Olympic legacy infrastructure.
