원초적 구술언어는 정보를 문자화된 언어체계와는 다른 언어의 체계로써 전달한다.현대영화의 담론에서 아피차퐁 위라세타쿨의 영화는 기존의 영화 이미지를 분석하는 주류적 시선인 문자화의 구조가 아닌 구술 이야기의 텍스트가이미지에 구조화 되어있다는 특징을 가지고 있으며 그러한 새로운 화법이 작가로써 그를 평가받아 왔다.그의 영화에서 소리가 구조화된 형태는 구술로 전승되는 언어를 반영하는데,영화에서 통신수단을 통한 서간형식의 의사소통은문자화구조를 따르는 영화에서처럼,내면의 분절화 된 상태를 보여주는 언어적구조가 아니라 하나의 자아를 대자연이나 지역사회전체와 같은 집합적 정신과연결시켜주는 역할을 한다.현실과 허구의 경계를 인위적으로 모호하게 하는아피차퐁의 영화적 전략은 동아시아의 전통적 서사적 전통인 구술을 통한 이야기의 전승을 서사기법으로 활용한 것이다.아피차퐁의 영화에서 설화적 이야기 구조는 이야기의 원형을 이룬다.정오의 낯선 물체에서 사람들의 구술적 전승으로써 하나의 이야기를 완결시키는 영화에서 서사가 진행되는 방법은 사람의 입에서 입으로 전해지면서 전승되는 설화의 전승 매커니즘을 현재의 시간에 재현해 냄으로써 관객에게 현실에 살아있는 설화 이야기를 경험케 한다.아피차퐁 영화에서 정글이라는 비-공간에서 벌어지는 일들은 인간이 가진 동물적 육체라고 하는 인간의 근본적 성질을 사유하는 이벤트로써 의의가 있다.아피차퐁 위라세타쿨의 영화들에서 인물들은 모두 억압적인 힘에 의해서 모두정글로 들어가고 영화는 그들의 여정을 좇는데,정글은 도시로 부터의 강제적분리를 의미하기도 하지만 동시에 인간적 조건으로 부터의 해방을 의미하기도하는 것이다.금수화 되는 인물들은 아감벤이 벌거벗은 생명에 대해서 이야기했던 것과 같이 호모사케르가 권력으로 배제됨과 동시에 포함되는 것 같은 양가적 특질을 가지고 있다.
Abstract
In this article, I want to introduce concept of orality in Apitchapong Weerachetakul’s film and how Giorgio Agamben’s cogitation of ‘Bare life’ can be experiencing through orally transcending folk-tales in his films. Sociological context of Thai society and Oral narrative structure of local are the main body of Apitchapong’s work. Sound in Joe’s film has quite different system than most of western experimental films have. In Joe’s work, the soundscape describe also internal but it describes entity rather segmented individuals’, the sound bridge human existence to another human, human to mother-nature and man to the collective spirit. For example, in Mysterious Object at Noon, telecommunication tool is bridging self to memory of local site of Thai which is collective and random, the cassette recorder functions as a tool to connect one’s existence to a collective memory of local region. Another example is In Tropical Malady. A walkie talkie machine is used for communication to the base camp in the city but this device soon gets interrupted with sound from the jungle and evolves into a larger soundscape as a whole. In this sense, telecommunication tool functions as a bridge of self to the entity and not solely as semiotic assemblages. Narrative in Joe’s film deliver as orally spoken language or folk tale in present time. All the elements in jungle exist as a specter in the story but attain actuality when the real tiger materializes on screen at the end of the film. Cinematic time in jungle is akin to similar with signified space of orally spoken language; narrative do not following chronicle order of words, memories are rely on man’s recollection and scene describing an event that happening in an ephemeral time. In the darkness of the jungle, audiences are rely on their experience from soundscape in the space rather image itself. In the orally transcending narrative like folk-tale, sometimes human character became anthropomorphic and having conversation as animal not as human existence. Monster or Animalized man in Apitchapong’s film shows infantile state of language of man that Agamben stated as Bare Life.
