티베트 영화에 대한 소고(小考) ― <티베트에서의 7년>을 중심으로 ―

Abstract

This article presents Tibetan films introduced to Korea, giving an example of an appropriate appreciation through an analysis of <Seven Years in Tibet.>, considered to be the most famous Tibetan film. To do this, a comparison is made between the travel essay and the film to examine descriptions of minor characters, Tibet, and China and in order to suggest a balanced critic. First, Heinrich Harrer, was broadly perceived as representative of Westerners rather than as an individual through the comparison between the main character and his family (not found in the original), his friends, and Tibetans. Second, the film only shows some Tibetan aristocratic societies, which is not representative of Tibet in its entirety. Third, the film makes superficial description different from the realities in the process of establishing the image of brutal China, which needs further transparency as it stands for an important political issue. It is important to note that acceptance of a film, as it is, without any censorship is the very main culprit of stereotypes and prejudices.
