북송 재일동포 탈북자의 정체성 연구 ― 문화정체성을 중심으로

초록

본 연구의 목적은 1.5세대 북송 재일동포 탈북자의 정체성을 문화적 측면에서 분석하는 데에 있다. 우리 근현대사 속에서 ‘국가’와 ‘민족’으로부터 유리되어 ‘나’라는 정체성을 잃어버린 채 살아온 사람들이 있다. 그 속에 ‘북송 재일동포 탈북자’가 있다. 북송 재일동포 탈북자는 1959년부터 1984년까지 북한 정권과 조총련, 일본 정부에 의해 북송되었다가, 북한을 탈출한 사람들이다. 1959년 12월 첫 북송이 시작된 이래 1984년까지 9만 3,342명이 북송되었다. 이 가운데 500여 명의 북송 1.5세 재일동포들이 한국이나 일본으로 돌아왔다. 1.5세대 북송 재일동포 탈북자는 일본에서 태어나 유소년기를 보내고, 북송되어 청소년기와 중장년기를 보내고, 탈북하여 한국에서 노년기를 맞이한 사람들이다. 북송 재일동포는 일본에서 태어난, 한국인 부모를 두고 있는 자이니치(Zainichi)이다. 또한 탈북자(North Korean refugees)이기도 하다. 이들은 일본과 북한의 문화를 모두 경험 하였고, 지금은 한국문화에 적응하고 있다. 따라서 북송 재일동포 탈북자 연구는 디아스포라(diaspora) 정체성 연구와 맥을 같이하고 있다. 1.5세대 북송 재일동포 탈북자들의 정체성은 북송으로 인한 이산의 아픔과 북한에서의 고통을 참고 견뎌내는 과정의 연속이었다. 결론적으로 북송 재일동포 탈북자들의 문화정체성은 첫째로, 디아스포라 이산 가족으로 평생을 온전하게 정주하지 못하고 이동하는 과정에서 시･공간에 따라 파생되고 “분리”된 특성을 보였다. 둘째로, 북송 재일동포 탈북자들은 특정 사회에 적응 혹은 동화되기 보다 자신이 속한 집단 혹은 가족을 중심으로 “주변화”된 특성을 보였다. 셋째로, 북송 재일동포 탈북자들이 시･공간적 차원에서 경험한 문화정체성은 동화와 통합을 거부함으로써 적응에 역행하는 능동적인 “인정투쟁”의 결과로 표출되었다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the identity of 1.5 generations of Zainchi North Korean refugees from a cultural perspective. In our modern history, there are people who have lived without the identity of 'I' separated from the nation and its people. Among them are 'Zainichi North Korean refugees'. Zainichi North Korean refugees are those who escaped North Korea after being repatriated by the North Korean regime, the Chochongryon, and the Japanese government from 1959 to 1984. Since the first North Korean repatriation began in December 1959, 93,342 people were repatriated to North Korea until 1984. Among them, about 500 1.5 generation Zainich North Korean refugees returned to South Korea or to Japan. 1.5th Generation Zainichi North Korean refugees in Japan are those born and lived in Japan until their adolescent years, spent their youth in North Korea, and defected to South Korea and reached senior age. Zainichi North Korean refugees are Zainichi born in Japan with Korean parents. They are also North Korean refugees. They have experienced both Japanese and North Korean culture and are now adapting to South Korean culture. Therefore, the study of Zainichi North Korean refugees is in line with the study of the diasporic identities. The identity of the 1.5 generation Zainichi North Korean refugees was a continuation of enduring the pain of separation and the pain of living in North Korea. In conclusion, the cultural identity of Zainichi North Korean refugees was first derived due to time and space, and “separated” in the process of constantly moving without fully settling down as diasporic families. Second, rather than adapting or assimilating to a specific society, Zainichi North Korean refugees showed “marginalized” characteristics centering on their own group or family. Third, the cultural identity experienced by Zainichi North Korean refugees at the temporal and spatial level was expressed as a result of an active “recognition struggle” against adaptation by refusing to assimilate and to integrate.
