이 글은 한 사회의 민주적 소통과 합의를 이끄는 공동의 정서인 ‘공통감각’(sensus communis)의 동시대적 양상, 즉 ‘기술감각’을 비판적으로 평가하는 목적을 지닌다. 본 연구는 우리의 ‘공통감각’이 시간이 갈수록 이른바 디지털미디어 기술로 매개된 ‘기술감각’에 더 좌우된다고 본다. 기술감각은 인간 신체들에 체화된 한 사회의 기술 정서이자 사회적으로 누적된 기술 밀도나 질감이다. 구체적으로, 이 글은 기술감각의 역사적 경향을 관찰하면서, 기술감각이란 것이 사회의 공통감각을 이루는 일부이자 핵심임을 강조한다. 특히 코로나19 바이러스 국면과 함께 비대면과 비접촉 소통 관계가 강조되면서, 새로운 첨단 기술 장치의 일상 확대와 강조에 비해 공동체적, 정치적 공감과 연대의 정서에 문제가 발생하고 있음을 지적한다. 사회 공통감각의 배양을 위해서, 결론에서는 동시대 비대면 자동 기술을 호혜성의 가치로 재전유하는 개입과 실천의 방법을 제안한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to critically evaluate the contemporary implications of “sensus communis,” a common sentiment that leads to democratic communication and consensus in society. This study confirms that our sense of sensus communis depends more on “techno-sense” mediated by so-called digital media technology over time. Techno-sense is a society‘s technological sentiment embodied in human bodies and a socially accumulated density or texture of technology. Specifically, this article observes the historical trend of technological sensitivity as an example, stressing that technological sensitivity is part of and the key to achieving sensus communis in society. In particular, this paper notes that, as non-face-to-face and ‘untact’ communication relations are emphasized along with the phase of COVID19, there have been more problems with the community and political empathy and solidarity. In conclusion, this paper proposes to establish a method for intervention that re-appropriates contemporary intact and automatic technology with the value of conviviality in order to cultivate sensus communis in society.
