이 논문은 체현된 인지와 체현의 물질적 구조를 통해 사이보그의 체현와 젠더의 관계를 탐색한 캐서린 헤일스의 문제의식을 공유하며, 웬디 휘경 전의 논의를 중심으로 계산하는 인간 컴퓨터였던 여성 컴퓨터와 프랑켄슈타인의 ‘딸’로 불린 소프트웨어의 작동을 살핀다. 이를 통해 이 글은 인간과 비인간을 훈육하고 양육하는 계산 기계를 계산하는 친족으로 제안하면서 블랙박스화된 계산 기계의 연산에 연결될 수 있는 방법을 모색한다. 이 글의 최종 목표는 계산 기계가 연산하는 패턴 식별이 기술의 용어만이 아니라, 정치적 소음을 차단하여 차이를 차별로 구조화한다는 점을 비판한 히토 슈타이얼의 논의를 제시하면서, 도나 해러웨이의 친족 만들기를 계산하는 기계와 연결하여 계산하는 친족 만들기의 형상에 관해 질문하고자 한다.
Abstract
Sharing Katherine Hales' concern to explore the relationship between cyborg embodiment and gender through embodied cognition and the material structures of embodiment, this paper focuses on Wendy Hui Kyong Chun's discussion of the female computer, a human computer that computes, and the operation of software that has been called Frankenstein's "daughter." In doing so, the paper explores ways to connect to the operations of black-boxed computational machines, proposing computational machines as computating kin that discipline and nurture humans and non-humans. The final goal of this article is to question the shape of computational kinship as proposed by Donna Haraway by making-kin to computational machines, while presenting Hito Steyerl's critique that pattern discrimination computed by computational machines is not only a term of technology, but also structures difference as discrimination by blocking out political noise.
