영조 연간의 『改修日記』와 일기청 운영의 실상

Abstract

The Ilgicheongdeungrok(日記廳謄錄, 奎12952) includes numerous details about the Ilgicheong, the Diaries Office, which was established during the Reign of King Yeongjo to restore the Seungjeongwon Ilgi(Diaries of the Royal Secretariat) destroyed by fire. The present study was conducted to review the facts about the Ilgicheong with respect to the mobilization of human resources and the supply materials that were required to conduct the various tasks of the project to restore the Diaries. After receiving the book paper form the Hojo(corresponding to today’s Ministry of Economy and Finance), the Ilgicheong prepared the striped book paper in the order of paper smoothing, cutting and stripe-patterning. Since restoring the 99 years of the destroyed the Diaries was an unprecedently huge project, the Ilgicheong came into continuous conflicts and adjustments with the Hojo with regard to the supply of the paper, the key material for the project, and the wage paid to the paper smoothing technicians. The restoration of the Diaries of the Royal Secretariat was completed in the order of the extraction of necessary text, calligraphic writing of the text, proofreading and correction of the written text, and the addition of letters. The Ilgicheong prepared the relevant work rules three times in order to facilitate the writing and proofreading tasks. Therefore, the Restored Diaries has features that are different form those of the original, routinely prepared Seungjeongwon Ilgi.
