Abstract

We are living in the age of limitless competition, conflict and alienation caused by the Neo-liberalism, and global ecological crisis caused by the climate change. It means we are living in not a living but a dying age. If our way of life does not change, then we humans can not overcome the world of death, and can not but come to the co-destruction. Now, more than ever, is the time when the self-reflection and introspection of our way of life, and the world outlook, the view of life and nature that form the foundation of that way, are requested. Only when we renew our world outlook, our view of life and nature and thus renew our way of life, can we go forward the living world from the current dying world. This paper, being aware of that problem, tries to follow the way of Wang Shouren (王 守仁, self-titled Yang-ming 陽明, 1472~1528) and Ham Seok Heon (咸錫憲, 1901~1989) to study the philosophy and way to save the life that our time is requesting. Firstly the author considers the formation and characteristics of Wang Shouren’s philosophy of innate knowledge, how Wang Shouren’s philosophy of innate knowledge is reflected in Ham Seok Heon’s thought on ssi-al (seed), and then studies the characteristics and the meanings of the thought on ssi-al, and lastly considers the message that the philosophy of innate knowledge and the thought on ssi-al left to the present age. The ultimate aim of this paper is to find the message that those theories left to us in the present change from the dying civilization to the living one.
