CTFS, GL, NRR, NS, FSTC, DO
Abstract
The objective of the present research was to estimate the genetic parameters for fertility traits in Korean Holstein cows. The original data set consisted of 211,899 records, with a total of 144,793 multiparous calved cows from 2009 to 2013 under the Korean dairy herd improvement program. The genetic and error (co)variances between two traits of seven traits were analyzed by using bi-trait pairwise with WOMBAT package. Estimates of heritabilities for days from calving to first insemination (CTFS), gestation length (GL), first-service non-return rate to 56 d (NRR), number of services to conception (NS), days from first service to conception (FSTC), days open (DO), and calving interval (CI) were 0.064, 0.060, 0.005, 0.014, 0.012, 0.021, and 0.021, respectively. The genetic correlation among traits ranged from -0.910 to 0.995; negative genetic correlations were observed between NRR and NS, and NRR and FSTC. However, DO and CI were found to be strongly and positively correlated with each other. Both CTFS and FSTC, showed significantly strong correlationswith DO and CI (0.479 to 0.862). The low genetic correlation between CTFS and FSTC implies that both traits are under different genetic aspects. These model can be used for the selection of better fertility of dairy cows.
