Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify SNP markers associated for boar-taint hormones (androstenone, skatole, and indole) causing unpleasant flavor from pork of uncastrated boars. Genomic data were collected from a reference group that constituted three breeds, Yorkshire, Landrace, and Duroc. The numbers of pigs used for the genome-wide association study (GWAS) were 5,359 heads, which were 3,858 heads of Yorkshire, 472 heads of Landrace, and 1,027 heads of Duroc. Fat samples were collected from pigs' living bodies using the BIopsy machine, and they were classified into low boar-taint boars and others by chemical analysis of back fat hormone levels. Through the GWAS analysis of the low boar taint boar group, significant genetic markers and candidate genes for three boar taint hormones were discovered. To estimate the breeding value and genomic accuracy, REML was analyzed using ASREML4.1 software, a multi-traits animal model was applied to the three hormones, and DEBVincPA deregressed from the estimated breeding value was used as a response variable. As a result of analyzing the three hormones using the BayesB and BayesC methodology, 9 SNP markers were found to be associated with the three hormones by Bayes B method to be related to the three hormones were discovered in the BayesB methodology. In the BayesC methodology, three fewer SNP markers were discovered. As candidate genes expected to affect boar taint hormones, a total of six genes were discovered: LMAN2L, ABLI, NRG3, CDH12, TRAPPC9, and MAN1A2.
