Abstract

Argentine new social movements are not guided by some leftist political parties nor organized labor unions as it is neither labor movements nor political movements but ones which intend to change the structural frame of social relations or relations of power already made by neoliberalism by means of communal cultural energies of ‘barrios’ and through the apparition of new collective subject of people by himself. And so Argentine new social movements began since the second half of 1990s. Concretely are the Picketers movements, Suburban Assembly movements, Barter movements promoted by affections and sociability of solidarity of people and middle class. The main purpose of this study does not remain in the general research about above mentioned new social movements with the historical approach but the analysis about how the cultural contexts help the excluded people and middle class to have those affections and sociability of solidarity. First of all, through the 1990s, the disasters came to the middle class as unemployment or poorness. But these lower middle class members show affections and sociability of solidarity with excluded people in their suburbs by means of Suburban Assembly movements, Barter movements. The cultural contexts which made them possible are ‘social homogeneity’, ‘cultural familarity’, ‘horizontality’, embedded in the same suburbs. The people also who suffer from unemployment and extreme poverties could fight collectively and persistently against neoliberalism thanks to the solidarity and consolation from the suburbs. It was communal cultural power of the suburbs that could practice the movements of alternative reconstruction and transformation over the capitalist social structures.
