경남 개항도시 해양 산업유산의 계승과 관광자원활성화 방안

Abstract

Since Busan opened its port in 1876 at the end of the Korean Empire, Japanese fishermen have moved to Incheon, Mokpo, Masan, and Gunsan, forming a free migration fishing village. Immediately after the annexation of Korea and Japan, Gyeongnam province accounted for 72.92% of the population of migrant fishing villages nationwide, which formed South Korea's largest migrant fishing village; As a result, modern fisheries and industrial facilities began to be built around the coast, centering on these opening ports in Gyeongsangnam-do. However, compared to Incheon, Mokpo and Gunsan, the investigation and preservation of marine industrial heritage are currently insufficient. There are 50 modern heritage of the fisheries industry in the original downtown of Busan, that is, the north and south ports, and 25 marine industrial heritages including mainly shipyards in the coastal area of Yeongdo. There are 15 marine industrial heritages in the port of Masan’s original city center, of which the modern fishery-related heritages include Masan Fish Market, a symbol of Korean fishery capital, and a guest warehouse. In the coastal areas of the original downtown of Busan and Masan, the fisheries industry has developed, and in order to derive successful regional regeneration of these old cities, it is necessary to devise ways to revitalize tourism by utilizing the regional characteristics where marine industrial heritage is accumulated. In particular, industrial heritage sites in Busan and Masan are located near the fish market, and in the case of Jagalchi dry fish market in Busan, modern buildings are being used as commercial facilities for local residents. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to list the marine industrial heritage in the original city centers of Busan and Masan through previous researches and field surveys and to devise a plan to revitalize tourism by referring to Yokohama's industrial heritage use cases.
