본 연구에서는 2018년부터 3, 4학년에 적용하여 시행되고 있는 2015 개정 교육과정에 따른 3~4학년군 초등 영어 교과서 파닉스 내용을 분석하였다. 총 10권의 교과서를 대상으로 교과서의 체제적 특성과 내용적 특성을 분석하였다. 체제적 특성을 분석한 결과 교과서 별 파닉스 제시 단원 수의 차가 너무 크지 않도록 해야 할 필요가 있으며, 각 교과서별 단원 구성 및 차시 구성의 차이를 줄이고 파닉스 비중을 늘려 충분한 파닉스 지도 시간의 확보가 요구된다. 그리고 학습자의 흥미와 수준에 적합한 다양한 활동과 효과적인 파닉스 지도 방법이 체계적으로 제시될 필요가 있다. 내용적 특성을 분석한 결과 제시된 파닉스 요소가 교과서마다 큰 차이를 보이고 있다. 또 파닉스 지도 순서에 있어서도 파닉스 규칙의 난이도에 따라 제시되기 보다는 단원 별 소재에 따라 제시되고 있다. 학습자의 학습 부담을 줄이고 파닉스 핵심 개념과 원리를 학습할 수 있도록 하기 위해서는 교과서 간의 내용적 특성의 차이를 줄이고 체계적인 파닉스 지도 순서에 따라 별도의 단원을 통해 활동을 개발할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzes phonics in third and fourth grade English textbooks which were developed according to 2015 revised national curriculum of English. The analysis was carried out with 10 textbooks focusing on the structure and contents of phonics in the textbooks. In terms of the structure, the number of units for phonics vary depending on different textbooks. It is required to balance the number of units for phonics among textbooks. Teaching hours for phonics should be secured and increased. Various phonics activities should be given to the students effectively and systematically and they should be suitable for the level and interests of the students. In terms of the contents, phonics is not given in systematic order in the textbooks. The order depends on the subject of the unit, rather than follows the systematic order. In order to teach the core concept and the basic principles of phonics, it is suggested that separate units for phonics should be developed according to the systematic order.
