TIMSS 데이터를 이용하여 본 연구는 중학생의 과학 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 변인을 분석하는데 그 목적이 있었다. 선행연구 및 이론에 기초하여 본 연구에 포함된 변인은 크게 학생배경 변인, 과학관련 태도변인, 학교학습관련 변인, 학교 밖 학습관련 변인이었다. 중학교 1, 2학년생 5,827명을 대상으로 기술통계와 중다회귀분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 과학 학업성취도에 큰 영향을 미친 변인은 학생배경 변인(가정의 책보유량, 교육포부수준)과 과학관련 태도변인(과학 자기효능감)이었다. 그리고 학생의 성이 과학 학업성취도에 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 주요 결과에 대한 함의점과 시사점이 논의되었다.
Abstract
Using TIMSS data, the study explored the variables which influence the middle school student's science academic achievement. Based on previous research and theory, the study included student background variables, science-related attitude variables, school learning-related variables, and extra-curricula learning-related variables. Descriptive and multiple regression analysis were performed using 5,827 of 1st and 2nd graders. Results showed the main variables influencing science academic achievement were student background variables(the amount of books at home, educational aspiration level) and science-related attitude variable(science self-efficacy). And the student's gender influenced science academic achievement. The suggestions for the results were discussed.
