Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of yoga exercise(YEx) and jump band exercise(JEx) for 12 weeks on sleeping, growth, and brain function in male middle school students aged 14-16 years by dividing them into a control group(N = 14), YEx group(N = 14), and JEx(N = 15). The YEx and JEx programs included 45-minute sessions 3 times each week at the following intensities: 40-50%HRR(RPE 9-10) for 1-4 weeks, 50-60%HRR(RPE 11-12) for 5-8 weeks, 60-70%HRR(RPE 13-14) for 9-12 weeks. For the comparison of mean value differences in each item before and after 12-week exercise, Two-way repeated measures ANOVA was used to test the interactions between each period in the YEX, JEx, and control groups. A paired t-test was used to analyze the within-group differences, and one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) was used to analyze the differences between the YEX, JEx, and control groups with a post-hoc Scheffe’s test. The alpha level of p<.05 was set for all tests of significance. The findings of this study were as follows; PSQI-K, GH, IGF-1 showed the interaction between time and groups. In conclusion, this study suggested that regular zero hour YEx and JEx has effective methods for the improvement of quality of sleep and the promotion of growth due to decreasing quality of sleep score, subjective fatigue score and increasing GH, IGF-1 in male middle school students. In addition, it is suggested that additional study is needed to reveal the effect of exercise start time along with physiological variables that are quality of sleep and fatigue in the future.
