Abstract

This study examined the effects of indirect trauma on burnout among early-career elementary school teachers and tested the mediating effects of fear of negative evaluation by parents and guidance efficacy. Out of 345 survey responses, 305 were analyzed. The results showed that indirect trauma had a positive correlation with teacher burnout and fear of negative evaluation, and a negative correlation with guidance efficacy. Indirect trauma significantly influenced teacher burnout both directly and indirectly through fear of negative evaluation. Although guidance efficacy did not show an independent mediating effect, a significant sequential mediating effect was found through both fear of negative evaluation and guidance efficacy. These findings suggest the need for support systems that reduce fear of negative evaluation and enhance teachers’ sense of efficacy in classroom guidance to mitigate burnout among early-career teachers.
