동아시아의 해양세계와 ‘鄭和(Zheng He, Cheong Ho)의 남해 대원정’의 문화적 의미 : 현대 말레이시아에서의 말레이시아-중국 교류 문제와의 관련성을 중심으로

이 논문은 중국과 말레이시아 사이의 교역 및 외교관계의 역사적 배경에 대해 간략히 검토한 다음, 양국 간의 역사적, 문화적 상호작용에 관한 지역 자료와 정화에 관한 말레이시아 화인들의 문헌들을 검토함으로써 정화의 남해 대원정이 갖는 현재적 의미를, 현재 양국 간의 교역 및 외교관계가 갖는 문화적 의미를 중심으로 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 그럼으로써 정화의 남해 대원정이 현재 말레이시아 사회에서 갖는 문화적 의미에 대해 비판적인 성찰을 시도하고자 한다. 이어서 정화의 남해 대원정과 동남아시아의 해양세계, 그리고 동남아시아의 대표적인 항구도시였던 믈라까와의 관련성에 주목하면서, 말레이시아의 현재적 관점에서 정화와 믈라까의 관계에 대한 종래의 역사 기술과 해석에 대해 재고해 보고자 한다. 마지막으로 믈라까의 항구도시로서의 의미를 정화의 남해 대원정과 동아시아 해양 세계의 맥락 속에서 고찰함으로써 정화의 남해 대원정이 갖는 현재적 의미를 말레이시아의 사회문화적 맥락 속에서 파악하고, 이를 향후 중국과 말레이시아 사이의 문화교류의 활성화라는 차원에서 정화의 남해 대원정에 대한 새로운 해석을 제안하고자 한다.
Abstract
This paper is to examine the historical background of trade and diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China, thereafter to investigate the cultural characteristics and meanings of Zheng He(Cheng Ho)'s Voyage of South Sea in East Asian sea world, with special reference to the trade and diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and China, through examining literatures and historical records on the historical and cultural interactions between Malaysia and China. In doing so, I intend to review critically on the cultural meanings of Zheng He(Cheng Ho)’s Voyage of South Sea in contemporary Malaysian socio-cultural context. Furthermore, I rethink the previous historiograhy and interpretation on the interrelationship between Zheng He(Cheng Ho)’s Voyage of South Sea and Melaka(Malacca) city, which was the most famous international port city in Southeast Asia at that time, in terms of the interrelationship between Melaka port city and Southeast Asian sea world, focusing on what the cultural meanings of Zheng He(Cheng Ho)’s voyage of South Sea to Melaka city are in contemporary Malaysia. Finally, I propose several interpretations on Zheng He(Cheng Ho)’s voyage of South Sea to build and rebuild the deplomatic interrelationship and socio-cultural exchange between Malaysia and China more productively for the future, under rapid changing circumstances in East Asia, including Malaysia and China.
