초록

이 연구는 가족 스트레스 모형을 적용하여, 가족 스트레스로서 낮은 사회경제적 지위(SES)가 부모의 양육태도 및 자녀와의 상호작용을 통해 다문화가정 아동의 사회적 유능감 발달에 미치는 영향을 검증하였다. 이를 위해 청소년정책연구원에서 구축한 다문화패널 2기 자료 중 다문화가정 아동이 4학년일 때 구축된 1차 연도 자료를 활용하였다. 연구대상은 한국인 아버지와 외국인 어머니가 구성한 다문화가정 중 국내에서 출생한 아동 1,685명으로, 자료 분석을 위해 기술통계, 상관분석을 하였으며, 최종적으로 구조방정식 모형을 설정하여 분석하였다. 이 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화가정 아동의 사회적 유능감, 부모의 감독적 양육, 부모자녀 상호작용은 서로 간 정적 상관관계가 있었다. 둘째, 가정의 사회경제적 지위는 아동이 지각한 부모의 감독적 양육 수준과 부모자녀 상호작용의 양에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 부모의 감독적 양육과 부모자녀 상호작용은 직접적으로 아동의 사회적 유능감에 영향을 미쳤다. 넷째, 부모의 감독적 양육은 부모자녀 상호작용을 매개로 아동의 사회적 유능감에 유의한 간접적 영향을 미쳤고, 가정의 사회경제적 지위는 부모자녀 상호작용을 매개로 아동의 사회적 유능감에 유의한 간접적 영향을 미쳤다. 이와 같은 결과는 사회경제적 지위가 부모의 양육을 통해 아동의 발달에 미치는 체계적 영향을 실증적으로 확인한 것으로, 다문화가정 아동의 사회적 유능감 향상을 위해 가족의 소득을 높일 수 있는 방안 모색 및 부모가 긍정적 양육태도를 가지고 자녀와 더 많은 대화를 나눌 수 있도록 지원하는 부모교육의 필요성을 지지한다.

Abstract

This study applies the family stress model (FSM) to explore the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on the social competence development of children from multicultural families. Using data from the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study (MAPS) second edition in Korea, comprising fourth-grade children from multicultural backgrounds, the study focuses on 1,685 Korean-born children with Korean fathers and foreign mothers. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling. Results indicate positive correlations between children’s social competence, parental monitoring, and parent-child interaction in multicultural families. Socioeconomic status directly affects children’s perceived parental monitoring and parent-child interaction, both of which directly impact children’s social competence. Additionally, parental monitoring indirectly influences social competence through parent-child interaction, as does family socioeconomic status. These findings highlight the systematic influence of socioeconomic status on children’s development through parenting practices. Addressing income disparities and implementing parent education programs are crucial for enhancing social competence in multicultural family settings.
