공립특수학교 교사들의 교직문화에 대한 질적 사례 연구 : 중등 특수교사 중심으로

본 연구는 공립특수학교에 근무하는 중등 특수교사들의 교직생활을 분석하여 교직문화의 특성을 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 이 연구를 위하여 서울특별시 소재의 공립특수학교에 소속된 중등 특수교사 5명을 주요 참여자로 선정하였다. 연구 방법은 면담, 수업 관찰, 기타 문서 등의 질적 사례 연구를 사용하여 수집․분석하였다. 결과에 따르면 주요 참여자들의 교직관은 ʻ힘들지만 좋은 직업으로 인식하기ʼ로 제시되었다. 주요 참여자들의 학생관은 ʻ장애의 이해를 통해 보람 찾기ʼ로 설정되었다. 공립특수학교에 소속된 주요 참여자들의 교육 활동을 살펴보면, 교실 수업은 ʻ부적응 행동으로 인한 수업의 어려움에 대해 토로하기ʼ와 생활지도는 ‘안전 제일주의 더불어 기본생활중심으로 접근하기ʼ로 분석되었다. 공립특수학교에 근무하는 중등 특수교사들의 행정 업무는 ʻ맡은 일은 관행처럼 처리하기ʼ로 밝혀졌다. 공립특수학교 재직 중인 중등 특수교사들의 인간관계를 살펴보면, 동료교사와의 관계는 ʻ평범하지만 서로 협력하기ʼ, 학교 관리자와의 관계는 ʻ소통의 부재와 공적인 만남으로 일관하기ʼ, 학부모와의 관계는 ʻ필요성은 인정하되 정작 만남은 꺼리기ʼ로 구분되었다. 이 연구 결과에 토대로 공립특수학교의 교직문화를 이해하고 공립특수학교에 드러난 문제점에 대한 몇 가지 방안을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the professional lives of special education teachers in a public secondary special school in a bid to shed light on the characteristics of the culture of the teacher community. The subjects in this study were five special education teachers who worked in a public special school located in Seoul. A qualitative case study was implemented by interviewing the information providers and making a participant observation of their classes to gather data, and additional documents were collected. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the view of the information providers on the teaching profession, they regarded it as a tough yet good occupation, and their view of students could be said as trying to understand what disabilities would be like to find it rewarding to teach students with special needs. Regarding their educational activities in public special school, they talked about their difficulties in teaching that resulted from maladjusted behaviors of students. In terms of guidance, they placed the most significance on safety and focused on the basic life of students. In relation to administrative job performance, they took care of their duties as part of their routine life. When the interpersonal relationships of the secondary public special school teachers were checked, there was nothing particular about their relationships with colleagues, and they collaborated with each other. Their relationships with school administrators just remained official all the time, and there wasn't appropriate communication between them. As to relationships with parents, they admitted the necessity of their friendly relationships with parents but were actually reluctant to meet them. Thus, this study attempted to have a good understanding of the culture of the teacher community in public special school, and several possible solutions were presented to problems with the public special school.
