본 연구는 신문기사에 나타난 섬 관련 주제와 정체성을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 섬 개발의 방향성을 제시한다. 분석 자료로는 1991년부터 2020년까지의 신문기사를 대상으로 텍스트 마이닝 기법을 활용하였으며, 분석 결과를 토대로 다음과 같은 섬 개발 전략을 제언한다. 첫째, 해양주권 강화, 안보, 배타적경제수역의 중요성이 부각됨에 따라 섬 개발 정책은 국가 안보 관점에서 접근해야 한다. 둘째, 섬 관광 개발은 연안 지역을 중심으로 한 상품 개발과 해상국립공원과의 연계를 통한 효과적인 홍보 전략이 필요하다.셋째, 섬으로의 관계유입을 촉진하기 위해 생활시설 개선이 필수적이다. 넷째, 섬을 환경문제 해결을 위한 연구 기지로 활용하기 위한 정책 마련과, 이를 지원할 자연·공학계의 후속 연구가 요구된다. 본 연구가 도출한 섬의 정체성 분석은 지역계획 관점에서 섬을 이해하고 개발 방향을 설정하는 데 중요한 기초 자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
This study utilized text mining analysis of newspaper articles published between 1991 and 2020 to examine island-related themes as expressions of island identity and, through this method, proposed directions for island development. Four key recommendations were presented based on the analysis. First, as maritime sovereignty, security, and the significance of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) are emphasized, island development policies should be approached as a means to strengthen national security. Second, island tourism development should prioritize coastal assets, with promotional efforts linked to marine national parks. Third, enhancing residential infrastructure is essential to encourage population inflow and strengthen connectivity with the mainland. Fourth, policies should be implemented to utilize islands as research bases for addressing environmental issues, necessitating further studies in natural and engineering sciences. These findings on island identity provide a critical foundation for understanding islands from a regional planning perspective and contribute to the formulation of appropriate development strategies.
