Abstract
Thehealthcommunicationskillisthephysician'scoreclinicalskillfordiagnosisand managementofpatients.But,mosthealthcommunicationconcentratesonthegatheringdata,andmanypracticingphysicianshavelittleskillaboutrespondingpatients'emotionsandabouteducatingormotivatingpatients. Inordertobecomeproficientatthevaryingtaskofinterviewing,physicianmustbeableto1)collectaccurateinformationinanefficientmanner,2)demonstratesufficientemotionalsupportsoastorelieveacutedistressandfacilitatethedevelopmentoftrust, 3)educatepatientabouttheillnessandencourageadherencetotreatmentrecommandations.
